In this book, we address all the canons of rhetoric that pertaining to writing: Content, Arrangement, and Style. This book is both a handbook and reference work, as well as a study guide through all of rhetoric with accompanying exercises. 

Chapter 1 is an overview of rhetoric, how the canons, the special topics, and the appeals to ethos, pathos, and logos connect.

Chapter 2 addresses Content, the canon of invention, the topics of invention.

Chapter 3 specifically addresses Arrangement, that is how to outline papers, both modern and ancient. We discuss how to write an introduction and a conclusion as well as how and in which order to present the arguments to support a thesis statement.

Chapter 4 discusses Style, both in terms of a comprehensive discussion of figures of speech, and also in terms of syntax and diction.

Chapter 5 is an appendix with additional lessons on writing, figures, diction, as well as a comprehensive index which is particularly useful when this book is used as a reference work. 

The key ancient source text for the exercises in this book is Aristotle’s Rhetoric, which the students will study and analyze.    

We recommend studying Rhetoric Handbook prior to, or concurrently with Demosthenes - Research Paper.
