This board is for discussion of Classical Writing - Aesop. CW Aesop teaches writing through rewriting of shorter stories, like fables.

Models - Long & Short versions?

There are long and short versions of the model stories. How are we to use these? Do we read from the long version and then have the student narrate from that version? Then, move on to the shorter version for the writing assignment?

Also, what happens when we need help understanding the point of the story?

You read the full story for the context of the story. You may use the shorter model for retelling if your student is overwhelmed with the longer one. The shorter model is the one we use for sentence analysis and word analysis too.
