Writing/narrating from model?

This board is for discussion of Classical Writing - Aesop. CW Aesop teaches writing through rewriting of shorter stories, like fables.

Writing/narrating from model?

Postby carmelitemom » Fri Oct 19, 2012 2:25 pm

I noticed with some fables and tales, the model for analysis is significantly shorter than the original story. Should the child be retelling the story from the model or original story? Some of the models seem fragmented when narrated back to me since they contain only part of the story.

Thanks in advance for any help.

The model for analysis is shorter so the student can focus in on the things to analyze without being overwhelmed with the length of the entire story. For narrations, you can go either way. If your student is overwhelmed with the length of the original, then the narration can cover just the model for analysis. On the other hand, if your student is ready to narrate the entire story, have him do so.
